Cassia Primary School – Inspire, Believe and Achieve Through Excellence
Cassia Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of highly motivated, energetic and innovative Teachers - Kindergarten – Year 6 to join its teaching team, through appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2021 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2021 school year.
Cassia PS is an Independent Public School located in South Hedland on Kariyarra Land. It is located in the Pilbara Region which offers a rich and diverse cultural environment with a wide and diverse range of l social, recreational and professional opportunities.
Cassia PS has 622 students and 70 staff and caters for a diverse cross section of our growing community and approaches all aspects of relationships and operating within our community using a culturally responsive approach. It is the largest primary school in Hedland and is currently participating in the Fogarty EDvance Program to support enhanced sustained student achievement over time.
COLLABORATION
It is a highly collaborative environment, with a strongly embedded school culture focused on support, enhancement and improving outcomes for students - Numbers, Names and Needs, where High-Performance and High Care is an expectation of all. Cassia PS forms strong collegiate networks in which is fundamental to our school culture and operations within the school, across the network and through a range of government and non-government agencies.
CURRICULUM
Mathematics and English are core areas of focus with PRIME Maths being introduced in 2021 and Talk for Writing, Talk for Reading, Promoting Literacy Development (PLD) and the Science of Reading forming the basis of the explicit direct instruction pedagogy. Professional Learning is available to all staff in these programs. There is a highly supportive team of our allied professionals – Education Assistants, Special Needs Education Assistants and Aboriginal Islander Education Officers who facilitate Cassia PS’s Responding to Intervention Tier 2 and 3 processes which occur for a significant number of our students. Our school is a vibrant cohesive and highly collaborative teaching and learning environment. Other whole school processes include Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Zones of Regulation.
CARE
As a Teacher at our school, you will be required to demonstrate an unrelenting focus on student growth and achievement and there is an expectation that you will value the whole child acknowledging that academic, social, emotional and physical pursuits are equally catered for and addressed. Suitable applicants will ideally believe in going deeper than just delivering the required curriculum and that knowing students individually, culturally and developmentally is just as important. Genuine and meaningful relationships will be the key to student and school success.
CONSISTENCY AND CONTINUITY
We focus on distributive leadership with an emphasis on talent identification providing support to emerging leaders. You will work collaboratively with school leadership, mentors, colleagues, allied professionals and the wider community to contribute to our school. Continuous professional learning, self-reflection, engaging with current research, addressing achievement challenges through, coaching, peer observation and feedback is an expectation.
Vacancies may arise during the life of this pool that require specialist qualifications (for example vacancies within Early Childhood Education). Only applicants, in the pool, possessing the required qualifications will be considered for appointment in these circumstances.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
