Jigalong is a short hour and a half drive from the thriving mining town of Newman in the beautiful Pilbara, which has all the facilities you might need. Jigalong Community has access to all modern conveniences including the NBN. We also have a local store, swimming pool, health clinic, police station and workshop. Explore the many waterholes and gorges nearby and of course visit the world renowned Karijini National Park. The school itself is exceptionally well resourced with Virtual Reality Headsets, 3D printing, fully stocked workshop, dedicated Home Economics room, a specially adapted 4x4 school bus, STEM laboratory, sensory room, LOTE program and a custom built outside classroom.
The people are Martu and self-manage their community striving to maintain their traditional culture and values. Students of our schools first language is Martu Wangka with proficiency in Aboriginal English. The Rabbit Proof Fence is located alongside Jigalong and the community was bought into the international spotlight with the movie - 'The Rabbit Proof Fence.'
You will need to be a healthy role model for indigenous students, physically, socially and emotionally. Great interpersonal skills are needed to work with families and students effectively as well as liaising with community agencies to support families and students. You will share information with parents about curriculum content in partnership with class teachers and also be competent using ICT with students and for record keeping and communication.
To be successful in this role you will have a strong work ethic and a deep knowledge and understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum Outline. You should be proactive in participating in whole school, and phase planning and curriculum development. The successful applicant should be able to demonstrate an exceptionally high level of collaborative practice, together with interpersonal skills to enable effective participation and engagement.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
