The Department is seeking to recruit highly motivated, exceptional teachers for our Flying Squad - Category 1 to support our rural, regional and remote schools.

After the successful completion of your two-year continuous service and probationary period, you will be appointed as permanent to the Department.
About the role
Our Teacher Flying Squad (Category 1) team provide relief in schools across Western Australia. They travel, as directed, to selected rural, regional and remote areas to fill vacancies for an indefinite duration.
To be successful in the Teacher Flying Squad you will need to possess strong interpersonal skills and curriculum knowledge. These positions are ideal for teachers with an extensive range of teaching skills, experience in teaching across the curriculum and the ability to readily engage a diverse range of students. You will take up appointments at a range of schools, usually at very short notice. Your flexibility and resilience will serve you well as you teach in a diverse range of schools across our state.

Our Teacher Flying Squad members receive free accommodation and travel to and from the location of any appointment. Category 1 Teacher Flying Squad members also receive a dislocation allowance to the value of $16,500 per annum paid fortnightly. The dislocation allowance is paid in lieu of any other allowances provided to teachers on the basis of the location of the school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
