Advertised Vacancy Number: IPS/TCH644551
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2021.
Alkimos Primary School (PS) is seeking an engaging, dedicated and enthusiastic Noongar Languages teacher. This is a highly specialised role and a comprehensive understanding of Noongar languages and culture is essential to successfully undertake this role.
The successful applicant will deliver the Language Other Than English (LOTE) program within the school to all students from Years 1-6 and will develop a comprehensive curriculum to support this.
Alkimos PS opened in 2016 and currently has an enrolment of around 620 students, and this is expected to exceed 700 in 2021. Our approaches to teaching and learning are that our staff members understand that the quality of relationships with students is the key. Our teachers are able to adeptly engage families and the Alkimos school community, as crucial to our school's ongoing success is the extent to which this sense of belonging and connectedness can be created. Our staff strive to create a highly collaborative learning environment.
A commitment to implementing whole-school curriculum policies and programs will be evident, demonstrating all teachers' capacity to be attuned to the individual needs of students, and their authentic skill to provide an inclusive, fair and safe classroom. Teachers and all staff will be an advocate for the importance of play in learning, taking advantage of the excellent nature playgrounds in our Early Childhood Education and primary areas.
Underpinning our approaches is a clear recognition that students' learning outcomes and opportunities are maximised when robust non-academic strategies and beliefs are apparent. In implementing and upholding these ideals, our staff reflect an awareness of the types of services and support required by the students, families and the community of Alkimos and this northern coastal area in general.
Applicants are also advised that Alkimos PS hosts a Specialist Learning Program - Autism Spectrum Disorder (SLP-ASD). It is expected that applicants strongly support the inclusive principles and beliefs of this program as students will regularly move between their homeroom and mainstream class. Successful applicants will demonstrate a capacity to cater for the needs of students within the SLP-ASD and the wider school community.
