This is a sixteen (16) month fixed term, part-time (0.6FTE) position commencing September 2020 with possible twelve (12) month extension.
Statewide Services, Early Childhood Education Branch is seeking to appoint a fixed-term school psychologist for the Child and Parent Centre (CPC) initiative. This position will work in a close-knit team with two school psychologist colleagues to provide services as outlined below.
Currently the position is attached to the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental, but is based at Statewide Services, Padbury.
There are 21 CPCs throughout Western Australia, with a 22nd to start operations in 2021. They are located on or near public schools in communities where there are high levels of vulnerability and disadvantage. The CPCs are intended to improve access to a range of early learning, parenting, child and maternal health and wellbeing programs and services, that provide support families with young children, birth to eight years – with a focus on children in the ‘Early Education Period’ (birth to four years of age).
The Department of Education is the lead agency for the Initiative, working in partnership with other government departments and 13 non-government organisations (NGOs), selected to manage and provide services at and through each CPC. As the successful applicant, you will have highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to provide professional learning (PL). In addition, strong organisational and time management capabilities are needed, as well as the ability to analyse and problem solve issues presented by PL participants, and provide on-the-spot considered responses.
It is essential that you are a trained and accredited Triple P facilitator (Seminar Series is essential, and further training in some or all of the following: Discussion Group is highly desirable, and Stepping Stones is desirable).
A significant element of the work requirement for this role will be to provide professional learning for parents who attend the CPCs, with an emphasis on Triple P parenting professional learning. Individual case work is not a requirement of the role.
As this position is of a more specialist nature, the successful applicant will ideally possess general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Psychologists towards the end of their provisional registration period may also be considered.
Occasional evening work and travel to regional locations (including overnight stays) will be required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention;
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills;
- Interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Departmental personnel and interagency partners across a variety of contexts;
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology;or
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position).

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
