Canning College is seeking a dedicated and motivated Network Support Officer to join their friendly team.
The Network Support Officer has the role of maintaining networked information technology resources effectively and efficiently in order to maximise educational and administrative outcomes within the Department of Education’s asset management and security regulatory framework. The successful applicant will provide technical support and training to all users throughout the school including desktop and software application and access to systems and resources. They will also provide input on system enhancements and implement new systems through research and identification of appropriate information technology resources.
We are looking to appoint someone with exceptional organisational and communication skills, along with an in-depth understanding of the Department of Education’s (DOE) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) policy. Ideally, you will have a clear understanding of Tier 1 and Tier 3 servers and maintenance. You will also be self-motivated and model high standards of customer service.
Canning College has made a significant investment to support the widespread use of IT in teaching and learning. The College has over 200 desktop computers running Windows 10 for student and staff use, and all classrooms are equipped with a desktop computer and either a multimedia projector, interactive whiteboard or interactive TV. The College also encourages the use of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) by staff and students. The Network Support Officer would provide support to staff and students in the use of such technology. The College utilises the DOE Standard Operating Environment (SOE4) and the Network Support Officer would liaise with DOE and utilise tools such as SSS and DAM to manage this environment. The College also has a number of tier 3 virtual servers and the Network Support Officer would need to maintain these and ensure the backup and security of data stored on the servers.
Some College systems such as ClickView, Oliver and the school’s website are hosted externally and the Network Support Officer would be responsible for liaising with providers to resolve issues with these systems. The two main server environments used are Windows and Linux, with the following software being utilised:
- VMWare
- Veeam Backup
- My SQL
- MS SQL
- SharePoint
- IIS
- Apache
- PaperCut
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Knowledge of network systems and platforms relevant to the operating environment.
- Sound analytical and problem-solving skills relevant to the operational maintenance of information technology networks.
- Sound organisational skills, including the ability to plan and implement data security procedures.
- Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients.
- Practical experience in developing and implementing user-training procedures.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
