All students have complex communication and learning needs and are provided with a well-balanced educational experience with a literacy and communication focus. Castlereagh implements the Comprehensive Literacy approach with daily Literacy Block sessions of Guided & Shared Reading, Writing, Self-Selected Reading and Working with Words and Letters. As effective communication partners all staff have their own Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD) communication book and wear and use this throughout the school day. Staff use their PODD to have conversations, teach, interact with students and to support meaningful communication in everyday situations.
Our class and specialist teachers provide students with rigorous, meaningful and engaging experiences which encourage every student to learn and to grow. We build high expectations for learning in teachers, parents and students.
