This is a five (5) month fixed term, full-time position commencing July 2020 with possible extension (12 month)
The Disability Services and Support Branch is seeking to appoint a high performing Principal Consultant to provide strategic leadership within an outcomes focused team. To be successful in the role, you will be adept at establishing and maintaining internal and external business relationships and have a strong conceptual ability to drive and inspire the shared vision of the branch.
The Disability Services and Support branch are committed to improving outcomes for students with disability through the implementation of strategic projects reflecting contemporary practice, state and national initiatives including Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on school students with disability, National Disability Insurance Scheme and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome Disorder.
As Principal Consultant you will lead and collaboratively manage a range of internal and external working groups for key projects. The successful applicant will lead and manage the planning, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of projects and their outcomes and provide advice to senior personnel within the Directorate and the Department.
The successful applicant will possess highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake high-level consultation, collaboration and negotiation with stakeholders and build strong relationships to provide innovative solutions and achieve sustainable outcomes for students with disability. The Principal Consultant will be responsible for leading the preparation of responses related to students with disability. In addition, they will work as part of an integrated Student Support Services Directorate within the collaborative structures of Statewide Services. As such, the successful applicant should be flexible, able to work both collaboratively and independently, and be able to contribute to the work of the Branch in a range of areas.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our Branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of current policies, processes and issues associated with students with special educational needs and experience in applying that understanding effectively.
- Highly developed leadership and change management skills, including the ability to coordinate and deliver strategic outcomes and influence change related to student support services.
- High-level experience in developing, implementing, monitoring and reviewing system-wide training related to students with disability and to interpret and implement relevant legislative and Departmental reporting requirements.
- Highly developed research, conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake high-level consultations, collaborations and negotiations with stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in preparing professional learning resources and complex reports and briefing notes.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
