Dryandra Primary School (PS) is seeking an experienced and passionate Teacher of Languages – AUSLAN to join their friendly team.
AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language) is the language of the Australian Deaf community. AUSLAN is taught to the diverse range of students we currently have at our school, including hearing students, many with other cultural backgrounds and several students with hearing loss.
The school is developing an inclusive environment to support deaf and hard of hearing students. To support us in this endeavour, we are looking for a positive and confident team player, with the ability to seek innovative solutions. AUSLAN provides authentic, purposeful and meaningful opportunities for mainstream students to converse and interact with their hearing impaired peers. It also develops and enhances their understanding of cultural issues and social norms in the Deaf community, encouraging the values of tolerance and inclusion.
Applicants will be considered on their ability to teach Auslan in the context of the position. However; any skills/training/experience in teaching AUSLAN would be highly desirable.
Ideally, the successful applicant will foster community links and partnerships to support student learning and further promote the school in the community. We are also seeking a teacher who can share their skills and practice with other colleagues.
It is also important that the successful applicant has an understanding of the Positive Behaviour Framework and that they can demonstrate sound behaviour management skills in accordance to the 'Classroom Management in Schools' approach.
Dryandra PS is developing the vision: 'preparing students for tomorrow'. We are focussing on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and beginning some innovative partnerships with Scitech and Edith Cowan University. Our dedicated and professional teachers work collaboratively and implement innovative programs and strategies which put students at the centre of all planning. The focus is on maximising the learning for all students and our whole school approaches in literacy and numeracy help to achieve this. Our school focuses on self-improvement and nurturing leaders. We reflect on ways to make the learning experience meaningful and relevant to all our students.
