This is a permanent part-time (0.75FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2020.
Ashdale Primary School (PS) are seeking an enthusiastic and friendly Cleaner in Charge to join their school.
The successful applicant will organise and supervise school cleaning staff, oversee the cleaner’s time-book, report absences and arrange relief staff. You will be responsible for highlighting issues and concerns on behalf of cleaners. You will liaise with the Manager Corporate Services (MCS) on all cleaning matters and provide on the job induction training for new cleaning staff. They will also ensure all leave and allowance forms are completed correctly before forwarding to the MCS.
As the successful applicant you will be a highly motivated, proactive person who takes pride in being responsible for providing a high standard of cleanliness within the workplace in order to provide a visually pleasing and safe learning environment for our students, staff and visitors to the school. The successful applicant will have the ability to work collaboratively and lead a high performing team as well as the skills to use the available resources to their fullest capacity and find ways to maximise funds and resources accordingly. Ideally the successful applicant will be flexible with good communication skills, will show initiative and have a genuine interest in our school.
Ashdale PS is an Independent Public School, located in the suburb of Darch in the North Metropolitan Educational Region. The school is set on beautiful grounds and we are very proud of our school environment. There are currently 860 students enrolled in Kindergarten to Year 6 at the school. A significant trend is the high enrolments of students with English as a second language and the cultural diversity of our students and families, with 48 language groups represented within the school.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to induct, coordinate and supervise the work of cleaning staff.
- Experience in school or commercial cleaning.
- Experience in the safe storage of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.
- Ability to recognise and interpret Material Safety Data Sheets, equipment operating instructions, safety instructions and training guidelines.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete the Department’s online training in manual tasks and hazardous substances within three months of commencement
- complete Fundamentals of Cleaning training as soon as practicable
- complete any other training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process
