Bunbury Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Deputy Principal who is motivated, hardworking and a committed professional, to work closely as a member of the Executive Team of a high performing school. They must demonstrate what it takes to enact a vision, planning and programs to achieve successful outcomes for students. The successful applicant will be a highly effective instructional leader with outstanding interpersonal skills and high standards who is ready to use their proven skills and abilities to take the Secondary School of the Year 2019 to the next level.
Key aspects of the role will be to realise the academic performance and pathway success for students is developed, endorsed and implemented successfully; allowing students to achieve Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE). As a key member of the broader school Leadership Team you will work collaboratively with the group to deliver the strategic intent of the school, in alignment with the School Business Plan. Experience in leading the improvement of student performance relates directly to this role. This requires an in-depth understanding of system monitoring tools. You will lead the Bunbury Senior High School data assessment, monitoring and analysis schedule.
The successful applicant will use their high level knowledge and experience as an instructional leader to ensure that the school’s teaching and learning strategy will continue to develop the instructional capacity of its teaching staff. You will have demonstrated experience to oversee the effective development and implementation of a sophisticated performance improvement culture with a highly structured classroom observation and feedback program that supports teaching staff to reflect on their own teaching practice with a view to continued growth.
You will work closely and collaboratively with the other Deputy Principal to ensure system and school processes are completed in a timely and effective manner. Ensuring the smooth operation of the school is another important aspect of this role. The successful applicant will ideally be able to demonstrate that they can operate effectively within a focussed and distributive leadership team environment and have versatility to take on areas under any of the Deputy Principals portfolios should it be deemed necessary by the Principal.
Bunbury SHS was established in 1918 and is built on an impressive site on one of the city of Bunbury's highest points, Boulter's Heights. It is the fourth oldest government school in the state; thus is entrenched in history and has very loyal and strong support from a large and diverse group of former students, parents and staff.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
