The School of Special Education Needs: Disability (SSEN:D) is seeking a committed and effective leader to take up the role of Associate Principal.
SSEN:D operates within a federation of four schools including the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health, the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory and the School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement to coordinate support for schools where possible and to share resources and expertise.
SSEN:D seeks to make a valued contribution to education through the provision of evidence based and practical support for students with disability and learning disabilities. SSEN:D provides state wide support to schools to support students with disability and learning disabilities; provides contextualized and evidence based professional learning courses and provides seminars to support schools, online research, information and resources. SSEN:D is committed to building the capacity of teachers and school based staff to deliver effective classroom programs that value the diversity of students in inclusive learning environments.
As part of the Executive team, the successful applicant will contribute and provide collaborative leadership to support the development of key areas of priority. This requires the ability to respond effectively to senior levels of the Department within short timelines and a high-pressure environment.
The successful applicant will demonstrate an excellent understanding of Department of Education policies, issues and trends relating to disability and outstanding skills and experience in applying evidence based pedagogy and Response to Intervention model leading to positive outcomes for students with disabilities is essential.
The successful applicant will be responsible for leading specialist service provision across the school, ensuring coordinated services across the Student Support Service Directorate and Statewide Services. An outstanding ability to demonstrate innovative, bold and creative solutions and a proven track record in working collaboratively to solve complex problems are critical to this position.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources and to contribute to the delivery of high quality services and initiatives in an educational environment.
- Considerable knowledge of Enrolment, Student Behaviour and Curriculum Assessment policies, and highly developed skills and experience in evidence-based pedagogy, Response to Intervention Model, unified and responsive service, change management, staff development and school improvement initiatives related to disability education.
- Highly developed organisational, conceptual and analytical skills with capacity to apply complex concepts in support of service improvement, policy and program development.
- Highly developed communication, networking, teamwork and interpersonal skills, including the ability to liaise effectively with a wide range of people within the education community and a variety of other contexts.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
