Lynwood Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated school leader committed to achieving outstanding educational outcomes for all students in our highly multi-cultural school. As a new addition to our school leadership structure, the Head of Learning Area - The Arts, will be pivotal in establishing a new Arts team focused on developing creativity, innovation and imagination in every student.
The successful applicant will possess exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills, enabling them to successfully harness the talents of a team of experienced teachers in developing and implementing a dynamic and innovative Arts program across the school. Critical to the role will be ensuring that the teaching staff across all disciplines are supported in their development as a confident, cohesive and high performing team.
The Head of Learning Area - The Arts, will work closely with the school executive team to co-design, articulate and commit to a shared educational vision for The Arts, focused on providing quality learning outcomes for all students; while supporting the wide delivery of a dynamic curriculum in a responsive, caring and flexible learning environment. The successful applicant will possess a passion and commitment to growing a vibrant, multi-disciplinary arts team that successfully implements evidence-based practices to promote a positive school culture, outstanding student engagement and a safe, supportive environment which challenges personal academic and artistic achievement.
The successful applicant should present a love of learning and possess a growth mind-set evident in their interaction with staff, students, parents and other community stake-holders. Ideally you will be able to exhibit the capacity to support the school’s major teaching and learning strategy, working in partnership with other school leaders to develop and extend staffs’ instructional capacity. Central to the position will be leading the implementation of Explicit Instruction as part of a developing Instructional Framework within The Arts
This position requires someone with a deep knowledge of curriculum planning, assessment and reporting who can work collaboratively to progress and develop new initiatives to improve the profile and engagement of The Arts in the whole school environment. This includes working with the principal to drive the improvement of performing and visual arts facilities in the school.
An ability to successfully deliver courses to students from Year 7 to Year 10 is essential. In addition, ability to effectively teach Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) courses at ATAR level Year 11 and 12 and /or relevant Vocational Education and Training Certificates is highly desirable.

Lynwood SHS became an Independent Public School in 2012 and won the WA Education Awards Secondary School of the Year in 2018 after being a finalist in 2015. After being in the Fogarty EdVance Program for three years we are now in 2020 an Alumni school. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
