Wickham Primary School (PS) is seeking to appoint a committed leader who possesses the personal attributes that allow them to work collaboratively, influentially and instructionally across the school. There is a small teaching component of up to 0.2 FTE in this position, at present that teaching is Science, however, this may change as the needs of the school change
The priority for this position is to establish strong relationships with students, staff and the community. The successful applicant would be a whole school leader, motivated and highly effective with exceptional interpersonal skills. Our focus is developing distributed leadership across the school, and the deputy will have a key role in supporting this structure. You will be able to demonstrate proven skills and experience in curriculum leadership, managing Students at Educational Risk (SAER) processes, managing student behaviour, managing attendance, working as part of a collaborative team and the ability to manage change and build capacity to improve student outcomes. Participative decision making is essential, especially in developing, implementing and maintaining policy and procedures.
In collaboration with the Principal and other members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school values, ethos and priorities, and encouraging students, staff, parent’s community members and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals. You will have experience leading teacher quality, using evidence based planning to improve learning outcomes and be able to work through complex situations in a team environment.
At Wickham PS, students, parents, staff and all other stakeholders work together to support all activities that form part of learning program at the school. Through this partnership, we share the responsibility for the growth and development of our students, striving to make our school a safe, respectful, innovative and exciting learning environment.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
