This is a six (6) month fixed term, part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing July 2020 with possible extension (6 months)
The Wheatbelt Education Regional Office is seeking to appoint a Participation Coordinator to join their team.
The Participation Coordinator provides case brokerage and support services to compulsory school-aged students at risk of disengaging from an effective transition into appropriate education, training and employment options. This includes looking at further education and post school options such as TAFEWA, apprenticeships and/or meaningful employment.
The role is responsible for making appropriate assessment of individual students’ needs, and providing guidance for young people to enable them to find appropriate pathways for further learning and/or employment. The successful applicant will assist in career development and transition planning at an individual level, particularly for young people at risk of leaving school early. Experience working with young people (years 10 to 12 age cohort) would be highly advantageous.
The successful applicant will be proactive in developing and maintaining networks/relationships with support services (State Government, Commonwealth and community agencies) that meet the needs of young people. You will also collect data on participation strategies, and monitor and report on client outcomes.
The Wheatbelt Education Regional Office provides support to schools to deliver quality educational opportunities and outcomes for students in diverse school and Wheatbelt community settings.
This role will be based at Narrogin Senior High School.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Considerable knowledge and experience of youth, education and training services, particularly in relation to at risk compulsory school-aged students.
- Well developed conceptual and analytical skills and the ability to identify and resolve issues.
- Well developed written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in a team environment, in diverse settings and with target groups.
- Ability to develop and maintain relevant professional networks and negotiate successful outcomes.
- Well developed organisational skills with the ability to use initiative to meet competing priorities.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain or hold a current ‘C’ class driver ’s licence;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- undertake travel, including overnight stays in non-metropolitan locations, as required; and
- undertake travel in small aeroplanes to remote locations, as required.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
