Appointment Pool
Student Wellbeing is seeking to establish a pool of Senior Consultants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2020 and up to the end of April 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2020, up to 30 April 2021.
The Student Wellbeing branch is responsible for the coordination and management of a number of strategic programs, projects and policies to support the health and wellbeing of all students in Western Australian public schools. These include child protection, student health care, student attendance, behaviour and chaplaincy services for schools.
The people we seek will model the department’s values. The successful applicants will have high level research and project management skills, be a confident and, proactive communicator with a strong focus on stakeholder relationships and effective outcomes to support the wellbeing of students in Western Australian public schools. In this role you will contribute to existing and emerging strategic priorities in collaboration with external agencies and other business units across the Department
Successful applicants will lead the development of student service support programs, projects, policies, procedures and guidelines focusing on student wellbeing. These include: child protection, de-escalation and positive handling training, chaplaincy services in schools, student attendance, behaviour and health care in public schools.
Attention to detail and high-level communication skills are essential for this role. A sound knowledge of relevant policies, legislation and strategic direction is highly desirable.
The Student Support Services Directorate delivers integrated, statewide services for networks, schools and teachers that assist schools to support the engagement and wellbeing of every student. Services and support delivered through the Directorate are integrated with the Teaching and Learning Services Directorate, and all other functions of Statewide Services, to support the successful outcomes for all students.
Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout Student Support Services.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of student services practices and requirements.
- Experience in implementing, monitoring and reviewing professional learning and support programs.
- Highly developed verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build partnerships and integrate services both within and beyond the Department.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefing and other documentation to support and inform senior officers.
- Highly developed research, analytical and conceptual skills, including the ability to deal effectively with change and generate innovative solutions related to student support services.

Eligibility and training requirement
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
