Appointment Pool
The Student Wellbeing branch is seeking to establish a pool of Principal Consultants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during 2020 and up to the end of April 2021. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2020, up to 30 April 2021.
The Student Wellbeing branch is responsible for the coordination and management of a number of strategic programs, projects and policies to support the health and wellbeing of all students in Western Australian public schools. These include child protection, student health care, student attendance, behaviour and chaplaincy services for schools.
The suitable applicants will be required to provide practical, accurate and timely policy advice, information and support to meet system requirements for schools regarding student support services including child protection, attendance, behaviour and student wellbeing.
All staff work within the integrated and collaborative structures of Statewide Services. As such, the successful applicant will be able to work flexibly, independently and collaboratively to contribute to the work of Statewide Services.
The applicants we are seeking will model the department’s values, have strong project management skills, be a confident, proactive communicator with a strong focus on stakeholders and effective outcomes in order to deliver on priorities and objectives.
The Student Support Services Directorate delivers integrated, state-wide services for networks, schools and teachers that support the engagement and wellbeing of every student. Services and support delivered through the Directorate are integrated with the Teaching and Learning Services Directorate, and all other functions of Statewide Services, to support the successful outcomes for all students.
Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout Student Support Services.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
- Substantial knowledge and understanding of contemporary, evidence-based practices related to student support services.
- Skills and experience in developing and implementing successful student programs, projects or strategies at the school, region, network and/or system level.
- Ability to provide leadership and influence change related to student support services.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to provide innovative solutions to strategic and complex problems and issues.
- Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to successfully undertake consultations, collaborations and negotiations with senior officers, school leaders and other stakeholders.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including experience in the preparation of complex reports, briefing notes and professional learning documentation.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
