Statewide Services is seeking to appoint a skilled and experienced Principal Project Officer to be part of the Student Support Services directorate.
The Project Officer will manage projects to strengthen existing services and facilitate the expansion of services. For example, the successful applicant will provide project management support in researching, planning, implementing and evaluating new and existing Alternative Learning Settings locations. The Project Officer will use their highly developed written and communication skills to provide practical, accurate and timely advice, resources, information and support to local schools, communities and networks associated with identified Statewide Services projects.
The Project Officer will need to demonstrate a detailed understanding and expertise of complex project management and substantial evidence of previous project planning implementation. This includes the effective use of project management systems and tools in order to monitor and meet project outcomes. The successful applicant will use their knowledge and project management experience to support the implementation, delivery, monitoring and reviewing of these student support initiatives, whilst undertaking research and systemic analysis of student, school and system-level data to identify areas for improvement and to inform the targeting of services and support.
You will establish and maintain effective working relationships and networks within the Department, schools and their communities and other agencies for the implementation of evidence-based approaches that support the wellbeing, development and achievement of all students.
The Statewide Services Division is responsible for the central portfolios that deliver support services to students and schools across the State to improve educational outcomes for all students. This includes closely collaborating with regions to ensure there is a statewide integration of support to schools and students delivered through regional networks, providing policy advice, allocating resources, and monitoring programs and services to ensure high standards of support are provided.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial experience and expertise in managing strategic projects and project management systems and tools in order to meet project outcomes.
- Substantial experience in the planning, analysis, development and evaluation of project and program initiatives in a complex organisation.
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with an ability to liaise, consult and negotiate effectively with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to convey ideas persuasively and develop/foster strategic relationships to achieve identified outcomes.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills and a proven ability to provide innovative thinking to identify solutions to complex problems.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment;
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
