The Deputy Director General Public Schools is seeking a knowledgeable and dynamic individual to join his team in the role of Principal Consultant – Schools.
As the Principal Consultant you will research, and provide policy and strategic management advice, to the Deputy Director General regarding current school issues, initiatives and investigations. You will also draft high level correspondence and strategic documents which support the Department’s overall strategic direction for public schools.
To perform the role successfully, you will need to develop and maintain effective working relationships with senior management and colleagues across the Department, the regions, and the wider community, to ensure policy, systems, processes, advice and support is effective. You will also be required to represent the Department and the Deputy Director General on Departmental and interagency working groups, committees and at various events and forums.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to provide leadership and manage a range of complex projects and issues.
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to undertake high level consultations, collaborations and negotiations.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical, research and investigation skills, and the ability to make decisions and provide innovative solutions to complex problems and issues.
- Ability to develop options, apply strategic thinking to achieve outcomes and develop and implement effective change management strategies.
- Sound understanding of and sensitivity to the strategic requirements and direction of the Government and knowledge of Western Australia’s educational system, operations at a central, regional and school level.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
