The School Curriculum and Standards Division of the Department of Education is seeking a dedicated individual to join its Examination Logistics team, in the role of Senior Consultant – Examinations.
Working within the Examinations, Certification and Testing Directorate, the Senior Consultant – Examinations will be responsible for developing designated Year 12 ATAR course practical examination timetables, specifically for Physical Education Studies, Chinese, Indonesian and Japanese Second Language in 2020, in accordance with School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority) policy, practices and timelines. This individual will also contribute to the strategic planning and formulation of processes for the conduct, delivery and marking of these practical examinations, including organising examination venues and assisting with the appointments and briefings of chief markers, markers and supervisors.
The Senior Consultant – Examinations will prepare detailed supporting documentation and materials for designated examinations and liaise with schools and students to disseminate information and coordinate the collection of relevant examination data. On completion of examinations, the consultant will assist with the post-examination statistical processes carried out by the Information Systems Branch. Duties will entail providing advice and support to chief markers with regards the statistical analysis of course practical examinations, quality assuring the commentary related to the performance of examination candidates, coordinating the development of chief marker examination reports and conducting examination results checks. This individual will also consult with colleagues, committees and working parties across the division to review procedures and evaluate the logistical aspects of conducting and delivering the examinations.
Working in a high-stakes, intensive environment the Senior Consultant – Examinations will also assist colleagues in the Examination Logistics branch with aspects of the conduct, delivery and statistical processes relating to Interstate Language and Year 12 ATAR course written examinations. In addition, they will contribute to the planning, organisation and conduct of the Authority’s annual Exhibitions and Awards ceremony. In carrying out all tasks related to this role, the consultant will be required to maintain effective records and Year 12 ATAR course information databases in accordance with the Department’s record keeping policy.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge of assessment and curriculum in the context of the Western Australian Certificate of Education and Year 12 ATAR course examinations.
- Experience in collecting, assuring, analysing and reporting data in an educational context.
- Highly developed organisational skills, with a proven ability to deliver outcomes on schedule in a demanding environment within tight timeframes.
- Conceptual and analytical skills with the ability to generate appropriate procedures and strategies to address issues.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to consult and negotiate with stakeholders at all levels.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a secondary teaching qualification and have teaching experience;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
