This is a nine (9) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2020 with a possible extension (12 months)
School of Special Education Needs: Disability (SSEND), based at Statewide Services in Padbury, provides state wide support to schools to support students with disability and learning disabilities; provides contextualised and evidence based professional learning courses and provides seminars to support schools and online research, information and resources.
The SSEND Principal will need to possess excellent change management skills, a willingness to confront complexity and innovative approaches to establish practices, processes and systems to ensure support for students with disability or learning disabilities.
The success applicant will lead innovation and be creative in the establishment of systems and structures to build the capacity of schools to ensure students with disability (diagnosed or imputed) are able to access the curriculum on the same basis as their peers through research and evidence based practice.
They will possess a commitment to continuously challenge the services delivered by SSEND including consultancy and/or targeted professional learning; intensive student support; and assistive technology in the way of mobility equipment and hardware and software to ensure it is contemporary and visionary.
SSEND operates within a federation of four schools including the School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health, the School of Special Educational Needs: Sensory and the School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour and Engagement to coordinate support for schools where possible and to share resources and expertise. The successful applicant will be required to work seamlessly with the other Schools of Special Educational Needs.

The successful applicant will ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students and encourage parents to be actively engaged in the education of their children. The role of the principal within the Department of Education is to ensure schools comply with all relevant legislation and reporting requirements and develops relationships with community organisations to the benefit of the school community.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

All appointees to Principal positions longer than 6 months in duration who have not completed 6 months or more in a WA public school principal role prior to January 2015 will be required to satisfactorily complete all Principal Eligibility Modules. The Principal Eligibility Modules which are completed online must be completed within 6 months of commencement in a principal role.
ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
