This is an eleven (11) month fixed term, full-time position commencing February 2020.
The Statewide Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Senior Policy Consultant in the Early Childhood Education branch.
The Senior Policy Consultant ensures projects, policies, strategies and initiatives in early childhood education are implemented and ministerial correspondence, reports, submissions and policy briefings on early childhood education matters are prepared in a timely manner. In this role you will assist with the development and the delivery of early childhood education professional learning and prepare strategies and procedures supporting high quality, evidence-based early childhood teaching, learning and development.
The successful applicant will possess excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to be flexible and work within a diverse team. You will have strong organisational skills, ability to meet conflicting deadlines allowing you to work on a number of projects on behalf of the team. Some intra-state travel will be a requirement of this role.
The Early Childhood Branch is a small cohesive team working on Early Childhood learning and development national and State initiatives for children and families.
This position also offers the possibility of a job share arrangement for two suitable applicants who are prepared to work collaboratively.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Well-developed knowledge and understanding of current policies and initiatives associated with early childhood education, including contemporary curriculum, pedagogical and assessment.
- Highly developed written communication skills, including experience in the preparation of reports, briefings and correspondence.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise with senior officers and develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve required objectives.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to provide solutions to strategic and complex problems.
- Knowledge, skills and practice in the development and presentation of professional learning for early childhood education matters.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
