The Statewide Services Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Manager in the Leadership, Innovation and Strategy branch.
This position will be located at the Leadership Institute in Leederville.
In this role, the successful applicant will manage the development and implementation of the Leadership Strategy. The Leadership Strategy is a comprehensive body of work that has 10 interconnected deliverables, across 4 priority areas; talent identification and selection, leadership development and support, performance improvement, management and feedback and system leadership. The Program Manager will be responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of a detailed and integrated program level schedule. Establishment of high level governance structures and monthly reporting will be critical to the success of the Leadership Strategy and will be an important function of the Program Manager.
The Program Manager will need to demonstrate a detailed understanding of sophisticated project management and evidence of previous project planning implementation and risk management, preferably within a government agency. An ability to work across teams, negotiate and collaborate within and across directorates and provide high level advice to the Director and senior leadership members is critical.
The Leadership, Innovation and Strategy directorate is responsible for:
- implementation of the Western Australian Public School Leadership Strategy 2018-2021;
- developing and maintaining the Independent Public Schools initiative and school autonomy agenda;
- supporting strong governance and stakeholder engagement in public school settings and coordinating strategic approaches to system improvement and leadership development;
- developing programs and resources to provide sustainable support for principals and school governance groups to effectively undertake their legislated functions;
- policy ownership of the Department’s Public School Councils and Boards policy and procedures; and
- initiating, developing and implementing systemic reform projects to support school leadership.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level skills and substantial knowledge and experience in system level project management with the ability to assess risk, identify opportunities and meet budget and timelines using appropriate management of financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
