This is a permanent part-time (0.5FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2020
Balcatta Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a creative, imaginative and resourceful teacher to deliver an inspirational program of Music Education in years 7 – 12 at a flourishing Arts campus. In addition, there is a Physical Education allocation included for 2020. You will be required to possess a high level of skills in Music and especially in Teaching Contemporary Music.
We are looking for candidates with a proven track record in flexible approaches to pedagogy and scheduling the working day; embracing opportunities to work within a variety of environments and an ability to achieve student outcomes aligned with the Western Australian Curriculum at a high level in large and small groups. You will be responsible for assisting the Head of Learning Area (HOLA) in creative solutions to the many facets of the Music program. A certificate qualification and the ability to deliver and assess Vocational Education Training (VET) music will be highly regarded, as you will need to illustrate an ability to manage primary school to secondary school network transition and the instrumental music program and staff.
The successful applicant will ideally be able to show evidence of the following Professional knowledge:
- Performance standards in a variety of styles on Guitar and other instruments.
- Improvisation in a variety of styles including in a soloist capacity.
- Sight reading appropriate to each instrument.
- Direction of contemporary ensembles.
- Writing arrangements for contemporary ensembles that can include brass, keyboards and other instruments. providing coaching for vocalists in ensembles including harmony coaching.
- Assembling and operating PA systems and other equipment associated with ensembles.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
