As a highly accomplished public relations professional your proven track record in formulating, implementing and evaluating comprehensive communications strategies and promotional campaigns speaks for itself.
In this key role you will deliver communications strategies for teacher attraction, recruitment and retention, including promoting careers in teaching, supporting principals to find the right teachers at the right time, and supporting workforce initiatives that position the Department of Education (Department) as an employer of choice. Your experience should extend to using the full range of promotional strategies and channels, including preparing content for social and digital platforms.
Providing strategic advice and consultancy to senior executives, a key strength will be your ability to influence and negotiate at all levels. As a creative and strategic thinker, you have the opportunity to work in a fast paced dynamic environment that demands excellent planning skills, flexibility and attention to detail.
The focus of Public Relations and Marketing is to ensure all activities enhance the image and reputation of the Department and promote WA Government initiatives in education.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Substantial knowledge of and experience in formulating, implementing and evaluating integrated public relations and marketing strategies and campaigns for a large service organisation.
- Highly developed strategic leadership and planning skills, including experience in project, budget and event management to deliver effective outcomes.
- Highly developed skills and substantial experience in writing communications for a range of purposes and audiences (both print and digital).
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to build effective working relationships and liaise and negotiate on high level and sensitive issues with a range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Highly developed conceptual and analytical skills with a proven ability to provide creative and lateral thinking in developing and implementing strategies.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
