Comet Bay College is seeking a dedicated, hardworking and enthusiastic Program Coordinator – Dean of Academic Excellence to join our Leadership team.
The successful applicant’s main portfolios are the highly regarded Gifted and Talented Program (GAT) Year 7-12, as well as the College’s Academic Extension Program Year 7-10. Additionally, the successful applicant will have a 0.2FTE teaching load in the area of their expertise. The Dean of Academic Excellence will provide educational leadership in the planning, implementation and management of the GAT and Academic Extension Programs. The successful applicant will work collaboratively with their Associate Principal line manager to ensure that the academic and pastoral care needs of the students involved in the GAT Program are consistently met to a very high standard.
The successful applicant will be an inspirational leader, able to provide clear direction to teachers, students and parents, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. We are seeking an individual with administrative abilities who is capable of engaging and supporting the school’s programs to create a positive school environment. Ideally the successful applicant will have completed the Gifted Education Research, Resource and Information Centre (GERRIC) modules and mini- Graduate Certificate of Gifted Education/Graduate Certificate of Gifted Education and have the capacity to deliver these programs to other staff involved in teaching in the GAT Program at the College.
The Dean of Academic Excellence will also coordinate and oversee the College’s Nautilus, Nautilus Master Class and Primary Extension and Challenge (PEAC) Programs ensuring that the teaching staff involved in these programs feel supported and have access to high calibre leadership at all times. The successful applicant will have strong skills in curriculum development with authentic differentiation to ensure high level outcomes for academically gifted students and have the ability and skill set to build the capacity of the GAT and Academic Extension Teaching staff to deliver high quality teaching and learning programs. You will have strong knowledge and understanding of higher order thinking skills, project based learning, cooperative, collaborative instructional strategies and critical and creative thinking. You will also have demonstrated experience in working with twice exceptional (2e) students, with specific skills in supporting these students and building teacher capacity around individual learning needs such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other learning difficulties.
The College invests heavily in technology and is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Teacher Development School. Comet Bay College is a vibrant, innovative Independent Public School that caters for Year 7-12 students and is located one kilometre from the coast in the vibrant community of Secret Harbour. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
