The Kimberley Schools Project (the Project) is a collaboration between the Department of Education, Catholic Education Western Australia, the Association of Independent Schools Western Australia, and the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development which is inclusive of consultation with the Kimberley Development Commission. It is a three year, $25 million Royalties for Regions funded project designed to customise, intensify and better support the existing strategies to accelerate all children’s learning, and in particular, Aboriginal students’ progress in Kimberley schools and communities.
The Project is seeking a motivated, experienced instructional leader who can realise a unique opportunity and join an exciting, cross-sectoral project designed to address the complexity and challenges of the context in which Kimberley schools operate.
The Program Coordinator, Kimberley Schools Project will:
- Be part of a team of program coordinators who will provide educational leadership to the Project schools and their communities, including shoulder-to-shoulder support, coaching and mentoring required to implement targeted teaching;
- Implement effective change management strategies that enable schools to improve educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy;
- Be an integral member of the Kimberley Schools Project team, providing practical support and expert advice to the Project schools as they implement programs to improve teaching and learning; and
- Have an understanding of effective early years practices and an appreciation and understanding of the challenges in teaching in regional and remote schools.
The Program Coordinator positions will be based in Broome; however, the location of the position will be subject to the requirements of the Project.
The positions will require extensive travel across the Kimberley region.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Extensive knowledge and understanding of teaching and learning practices and the ability to apply evidenced based practices to the Project’s four key components.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Extensive skills and experience in the development and implementation of programs, strategies and approaches across the Project’s four key components at a school, region or system level.
- Well-developed communication and presentation skills, including experience in data management and preparing reports.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership, deal effectively with change, and generate and apply innovative solutions across the Project’s key components.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- undertake travel throughout the Kimberley region;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
