Broome Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dedicated professional to lead the Vocational Education and Training team during 2020 and beyond.
Broome SHS, winner of the WA School of the Year for 2012, is now one of the premier high schools in the state. A leading Independent Public School in its own right, the school is also proudly part of the Broome Cluster of Independent Public Schools working in close collaboration with the town’s four primaries, Broome, Broome North, Cable Beach and Roebuck Primary Schools. Broome SHS is a high performing school with a diverse student population, including 40% Indigenous students and a wide range of class offerings. Currently at 950 students, the school has grown significantly in recent years and now retains close to 90% of feeder Primary School students
As the Program Coordinator – CAVE, you will join an outstanding staff team who are making a significant difference to our students. We are seeking an individual with the highest level of interpersonal and leadership skills, to lead, empower and bring the best out in staff. As well as leading and managing the CAVE Learning Area, you will also be part of the school's leadership group, so your ability to be a part of and contribute to the school's collaborative culture, vision and future is of equal importance. Ideally you will possess the capacity to form constructive professional relationships within such a group with the aim of making and implementing decisions that improve the educational outcomes of all Broome SHS students.
The role requires significant knowledge of Vocational Education and Training and Work Place Learning programs and the ability to facilitate school/industry partnerships. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders would be highly advantageous. The role would suit an individual with developed organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and identify priorities.
The Program Coordinator – CAVE role is multi-dimensional. As well as the leadership and management of Careers and VET programs and staff, you will lead the course counselling team for incoming Year 11 students, perform progress interviews with Year 11/12 VET and General students and manage SCSA requirements including overseeing SIRS uploads and the monitoring of WACE Activity Schedules. A teaching load of 0.4FTE will also be part of this role in 2020.

You will lead and contribute to team, whole school and Cluster strategic direction and planning to meet the needs of the students of the Broome Cluster schools.
Broome is a vibrant and attractive coastal town in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. As a tourist town, Broome is well resourced regarding facilities and services. Applicants offered a position will be eligible for Government Regional Officer’s Housing (GROH) housing and assistance with the movement of furniture and vehicle to Broome.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
