Appointment Pool
We are seeking to establish a pool for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
The Education Assistant – Special Needs supports students to access and participate in their educational program. This occurs primarily through the mentoring and pastoral care of students, as well as by assisting the teacher in the preparation and delivery of educational programs. Your experience, dedication and enthusiasm will be an asset to our team.
We have a dynamic team and resources supporting students both academically and emotionally to achieve their potential. This includes an extensive support program both in class and out of class with small group intervention, which is strongly supported by our Student Services team.
Suitable applicants will assist in the implementation of these specialised education programs whilst working with students with disabilities and additional learning needs. They will assist teachers in the delivery of planned education programs, including the operation of computers and digital technologies and implement individual students or small group programs or demonstrations. They will, when required, provide feedback on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education. The successful applicant/s will have excellent communication skills and work collaboratively or independently as required, to improve outcomes for our students. They would perform tasks that required discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher. The successful applicant/s would be able to apply techniques, skills and knowledge of relevant practices acquired through previous experience, on the job learning and have the relevant qualifications.

Offering a diverse range of challenging Elective subjects to the Year 8,9 and 10 students, Kinross College encourages students to consider options such as LOTE, a wide range of physical education, including aquatic sports, photography and multi-media and many other opportunities. Kinross College runs several Specialist Programs for which select students are tested for entry These include the KEA (Kinross Education Acceleration) Program; Specialist Music Program and the Soccer Program. Our academically advanced students also compete in the World Scholars Cup which is an international academic competition that culminates its final stage at Yale University in United States. Kinross College students have successfully participated in this academic completion for several years now, with a number of students reaching Yale level and travelling to USA to compete. The Police Rangers and World Challenge is also run through Kinross College and with their overseas tours and camping activities, these have proven to be popular pursuits. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Effective written and oral communication skills, including report writing and the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs, and liaise with parents, teachers and community members and assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to contribute to a professional team and provide advice and evaluation in the development of the education program, including special education and therapy programs where they have been implemented.
- Ability to assist professionals in the implementation and evaluation of education programs, including special education and, if required, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well being of students

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
Education Assistants working with Kindergarten Students may be required to have, or be actively working towards, a Certificate lll in Education Support (or approved equivalent) in order to meet the educator-to-student ratio outlined in the National Quality Standard for Early Childhood Education and Care.
Approved equivalent qualifications are published by the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
