Appointment Pool
Kinross College is seeking to establish a pool of experienced, dedicated and enthusiastic Home Economics Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2020 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2020 school year.
The focus of this very busy role is to support and assist the Home Economics Teacher in delivering planned education programs and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Suitable applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a very busy team environment. To be suitable for this role, you will be able to work well under pressure using high standards of hygiene and food management. It is preferable that applicants have a clear understanding of food and food preparation to assist the teacher in delivering planned educational programs. You should also have the ability to interact with empathy and professionalism within a diverse cultural community and with a range of outside agencies. Strong organisational skills and knowledge and understanding of computers and the Recipe Manager Application will be beneficial for ordering and monitoring stock levels and will be considered advantageous. Applicants are required to have the capacity to transfer their knowledge and skills in undertaking the work related requirements to achieve the outcomes of this position.

The college is located in the City of Joondalup in close proximity to Kinross Primary School and has outstanding purpose built facilities with a $7.5 million building program for additional facilities recently completed. The building program included a new Student Services block a second Food Technology Centre, extensions to our Design and Technology woodwork and metalwork departments and upgrades to our Information Technology (IT) laboratories and all three of our learning communities, which now have beautiful fully appointed classrooms. A further $2.5 million building program will commence in mid-year 2020 to upgrade our existing Performing Arts Centre and lecture theatre; provide a dedicated Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) department and specialised music studios for our Specialist Music Programs. As well as core curriculum classrooms our facilities include design and technology studios, computer labs, undercover courts, alfresco area for students and an Information Access Centre where our well-resourced library is located.
The College is technologically advanced with wireless connectivity over the whole site and data points for desktop computers. Offering a diverse range of challenging elective subjects to Year 8, 9 and 10 students, Kinross College encourages students to consider options such as Languages other than English (LOTE), a wide range of Physical Education, including aquatic sports, photography and multi-media and many other opportunities. The college runs several Specialist Programs, including the Kinross Education Acceleration (KEA) program; Specialist Music Program and the Soccer Program. Our academically advanced students also compete in the World Scholars Cup which is an international academic competition that culminates its final stage at Yale University in United States. Our students have successfully participated in this academic completion for several years now, with a number of students reaching Yale University level and travelling to USA to compete. The Police Rangers and World Challenge is also run through Kinross College and with their overseas tours and camping activities, these have proven to be popular pursuits. Kinross College also has a close network with Kinross Primary School and Mindarie Senior College.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to liaise with students, teachers, parents, and professional staff on the provision of educational programs.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
- Ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
- Ability to assist teachers in implementing education programs.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
