Geraldton Senior High School (SHS) is seeking to appoint a Year 7-9 Curriculum, Standards and Operations Deputy Principal who is passionate and dynamic, is a leader, and is wanting to be part of a committed and dedicated Executive team.
As the successful Year 7-9 Deputy Principal, you will be required to work with all members of the school staff, focusing on curriculum, student progress and achievement, and overseeing a number of significant areas within the school including NAPLAN, STEM, Aboriginal Education and Special Education Needs (SEN). An important part of the role will be to foster and develop leadership across the school as well as providing extensive support to new staff through the school induction process. The successful applicant will themselves have strong leadership skills that provide a strategic direction for staff in promoting a culture of improvement in professional performance.
Geraldton SHS was opened in 1939 and is steeped in tradition. There is a great sense of pride in what the school has achieved over an extensive period of time. The successful applicant will become a part of a dedicated staff that works continually to provide opportunities for all students in a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment.
At Geraldton SHS you will be a part of the Executive team, making key future focused decisions as the school continues to transition from a Year 10-12 senior college to a Year 7-12 mainstream senior high school.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
