This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2020 with possible extension (12 months) and/or permanency.
At East Kimberley College we are seeking to appoint a dedicated Deputy Principal – Secondary to join our dedicated, capable and friendly team.
Here at East Kimberley College, we have a strong focus on Explicit Instruction, student performance, academic rigour and classroom management strategies. As the successful applicant, you will represent the Secondary area of the college on the Explicit Instruction Committee (K-12) and by working in partnership with your Primary counterpart, drive school-wide pedagogy to increase levels of academic improvement, performance and outcomes. If you were to be the successful applicant, you will implement a solution-focussed approach and clearly demonstrate the schools vision of a “School of Choice”, empowering all students to succeed.
An effective skill set in the area of data analysis and research-based practices would be advantageous. This role includes the line management and performance management of Technologies and Arts Teachers, and the development of effective working relationships with a variety of school-based and external agencies. Part of the role would be the effective transition of Year Six students into the Secondary area of the college, from a variety of different school settings.
As the successful applicant you will desirably be experienced in the management of student behaviour and be committed to collaborative teaching and learning practices to increase student engagement. You will also be an exceptional practitioner, ideally with a proven ability to bring about successful outcomes in all dealings, especially with students who may experience challenges external to the college setting.
Additional desirable skills include:
- organisational skills such as human resource management and recruitment;
- extensive knowledge of systems such as Reporting to Parents, Connect, SAIS, OSI and SIS (for example), and the ability to effectively utilise and communicate data to inform future planning
- knowledge of Departmental policy and compliance (Attendance, Excursions, Code of Conduct, etc)
- capacity to lead the case management of high-risk students when necessary
- ability to effectively partner with and communicate with external agencies and support services, along with parents and the broader community
- ability to build the capacity of teachers through classroom observations, feedback, modelling or coaching; and
- innovative and strategic approaches to planning and problem solving.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
