Champion Bay Senior High School (CBSHS) is seeking a highly motivated and energetic Program Coordinator – Literacy Development to join our Leadership team.
The successful applicant will work in conjunction with our school’s Literacy team and teaching staff to enhance classroom literacy practices and improve student literacy. The successful applicant will also help lead and manage the Literacy team and literacy programs within the school.
In collaboration with the executive team, the Program Coordinator – Literacy Development role provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, and encouraging staff, volunteers from the community and others to share ownership of the school’s vision and goals.
Using effective change management strategies, the Program Coordinator – Literacy leads the school community to accept and develop opportunities for improved service in the relevant area of responsibility. The Program Coordinator – Literacy provides a role model for self-development to improve professional performance.
The successful applicant will lead, coordinate and monitor the community, in literacy improvement in accordance with CBSHS targets and priorities. The Literacy Development Coordinator will play a key role in the strategic development of teaching and learning within the literacy area. The successful applicant will make decisions regarding the implementation of literacy policies and suggest key recommendations to the Executive and Leadership teams. The Program Coordinator – Literacy Development will be expected to have a deep understanding of both policy and policy implementation strategies. It is highly desirable to have demonstrated experience with the development; delivery and evaluation of programs to deliver improved outcomes in literacy.
A major component of this role will be to take shared responsibility for the development and implementation of the whole school policy for literacy engagement. The successful applicant will desirably possess highly developed data analysis skills and be able to work with staff to ensure that decisions made about student learning will be supported by existing data.
In addition, the Program Coordinator-Literacy Development works closely with students involved in the Pathways and Transitions portfolio. Knowledge and experience working with course counselling in the senior school is an advantage.
The successful applicant will also be required to undertake the Learning Support Coordinator role and, as such, experience in working with disability would be highly desirable.
CBSHS, is located in the city of Geraldton. The school will be extending our cohort until 2021, when it will become a comprehensive Years 7-12 community. Currently, we work exclusively with Years 7-10 and we are keen to expand our literacy support programs across the school. The school is a multicultural environment with a diverse range of students from Geraldton, the rural hinterland, the Midwest region and from across the north of the state. Students from outside Geraldton board at the Geraldton Residential College. It is a vibrant and active learning environment that showcases a one to one Student Information Computer Technology (ICT) Devices program and extensive Arts (Music) program. The school also has an Approved Specialist Program developing Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) learning. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING:
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
