This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2020
Are you able to help aspirant Aboriginal students follow their dreams?
Broome SHS is seeking a committed, knowledgeable and well organised leader to coordinate the Follow the Dream program at the school in 2020 and beyond.
Follow the Dream (FTD) is a voluntary program for aspirant Aboriginal secondary school students. The program provides after-school tuition and individualised mentoring, support and case management to assist and support these students to continue achieving excellent outcomes at school, complete Year 12 and obtain university entry. The program also often includes high-achieving and motivated students undertaking vocational education and training (VET) in schools pathways, provided they meet the program's selection criteria and their inclusion does not detract from the program's strong educational excellence focus and culture. The successful applicant must have experience with teaching Indigenous students.
The Program Coordinator (FTD) has a leadership role within the school and is a member of the Senior Staff team. Their major responsibility is the management of support for students within the program, both through in-class assistance and after school study sessions; selection and management of tutors; and the planning and conduct of camps and excursions relevant to student need and aspirations. He/she will also collaborate with other key stakeholders to provide expert advice and support to school leaders and teaching staff in developing and implementing targeted programs, plans, strategies and whole school approaches for improving student achievement, aligned with the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework
It is important that the Program Coordinator actively and regularly collaborates with their students' teachers, as well as Heads of Learning Areas, Year Leaders, career and course advisors, and VET and workplace learning coordinators. This will ensure that Program Coordinator is kept up-to-date and have a holistic understanding and perspective on students' educational and other needs, as well as students' learning programs, activities, individual learning plans and progress.
Another key role of the Program Coordinator is to ensure that the program has a prominent presence in the school and the local community. This will to be achieved through a variety of means, such as newsletters and Connect notices, representation at community events, and participation in whole-school meetings, professional development and Internal school staff meetings.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
