This is a seven (7) month fixed term, full-time position commencing ASAP with possible six (6) month extension
Working with Teachers and other School Leaders, the role of the Principal Consultant - Engagement Coaching is to model and observe classroom practise, and to support reflection and professional conversations that assists teachers to set goals, identify areas for support and reflect on practice to determine strategies for improvement. The Dyslexia SPELD Foundation Program, Talk For Writing and other similar tools are the foundation of this initiative.
Engagement Coaching is a strategy of the In-school Engagement of Students initiative that forms part of the Pilbara Partnerships for Student Success (PPSS) Project. The PPSS is supported by the Royalties for Regions Pilbara Education Fund, administered by the Pilbara Development Commission. A key objective of the project is to support the implementation of Literacy and Response to Intervention projects, to improve student engagement and achievement through supporting the implementation of evidence-based practices in the classroom.
This position will be based in Newman and will require travel to schools and other sites within the Pilbara Education Region, specifically the Karijini Network of Schools, four-wheel drive vehicles (4WD) will be utilised and successful applicants will be required to obtain or hold a current: TLIC2025 Operate 4WD Vehicle & RIIVEH305E Operate & Maintain a 4WD Vehicle. There are also opportunities to be creative in communicating across the region including Pilbara Specific Video Conferencing and Web Ex.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Experience in evidence-based instructional practices.
- Knowledge and highly developed skills in effective and innovative teaching and learning methods, and capacity to meet the learning needs of a diverse range of students, particularly Aboriginal learners.
- Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to deliver effective services across a range of internal and external sites and with a variety of stakeholders.
- Highly developed conceptual, analytical and research skills with the ability to identify and analyse modern trends and generate appropriate strategies to address them.
- Highly developed written communication and presentation skills, including the ability to prepare quality-written documentation and presentations for workshops and courses.
- Highly developed organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks to meet timelines.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
