Riverton Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking to employ an enthusiastic, highly motivated, positive and knowledgeable Education Support Teacher (Communication Specialist).
Riverton ESC caters for students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We are situated on the same site as Riverton Primary School and together we make up Riverton Primary Campus. All students at the centre have additional learning needs and the curriculum and environment is adapted to meet the needs of the individual. All students require substantial and comprehensive adaptations and Individual Education Plans are developed collaboratively with service providers, parents and therapists.
Riverton Primary Campus is an extremely inclusive environment where all staff members work together to provide an inclusive environment for all students. Knowledge of our school and Campus priorities and strategic directions are critical. Suitable applicants should demonstrate a high level of interpersonal skills to enable them to work collaboratively with staff members from the mainstream and the Education Support Centre to deliver individually tailored programmes that meet the needs of all students. Riverton ESC has small class sizes with a high student staff ratio. Suitable applicants will demonstrate competency in leading and developing a team, and demonstrate high positive interpersonal communication skills
Suitable applicants will be a communication specialist and will be responsible for
- Developing, implementing and rigorously assess communication programs relevant to a range of students with special needs including Autism Spectrum Disorder and (ASD) Intellectual Disability (ID).
- Train all staff to implement and facilitate an inclusive AAC environment in the classroom and the Campus
- Work individually with teachers across the campus to develop a high level of competency using AAC devices and strategies
- Collaborate with Speech Pathologists to create and develop appropriate communication adaptations and outcomes for all staff and students
- Ability to give sound advice and comprehensive feedback to staff on communication strategies for all students
- Provision of Performance Management Process for staff using Communication Matrix
The applicant will be highly skilled in effective teaching methods whilst successfully incorporating Information Computer Technology (ICT) in all learning programs. The applicant will demonstrate competency in developing scaffolded strategies, use formative and summative assessment tools, and have a sound understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum, ABLESWA and SEN reporting process. The applicant will have an understanding of Positive Behaviour Strategies, be able to the implement these strategies and have the ability to collect and analyse data to make positive behavioural changes to individuals. The applicant will work in all phases of development in special education and develop and implement functional and appropriate programmes for a range of students with special needs at the centre.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
