The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and committed Principal Consultant, Secondary - Curriculum and Assessment (Technologies) with specialised expertise in Applied Information Technology and Computer Science.
The School Curriculum and Standards Division provides administrative and secretariat services for, and implements the decisions of the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (the Authority). The Authority provides quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
The Principal Consultant – Secondary Curriculum and Assessment (Technologies), manages and provides leadership for the development, implementation and review of curriculum, assessment and standards support materials developed by the Authority in the area of Technologies for Years 7-12 with a particular emphasis on Digital Technology in Years 7-10 and Applied Information Technology and Computer Science in Years 11-12.
The Principal Consultant will facilitate consultation and collaborative processes between school systems/sector, schools and other stakeholder organisations to share ideas and devise common approaches on the implementation of the Authority’s policies and procedures. The Principal Consultant will manage contract writers and associated physical resources, if required, in a manner which meets legislated requirements and provides executive support for advisory committees as required. The Principal Consultant will provide high-level curriculum expertise in producing quality ATAR course examinations, corresponding marking keys and related resource materials. The Principal Consultant will provide high-level advice, correspondence and briefings to the Minister, the Board, the Executive Director, education systems and sector as required. The Principal Consultant will develop and implement moderation processes for the secondary years of schooling and organise, facilitate and coordinate seminars, school visits and information sessions for staff from schools, regions, professional associations, systems and sectors as required.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- High-level knowledge of curriculum and assessment in the context of the Western Australian Curriculum and Assessment Outline, the WACE, ATAR course examinations, performance monitoring and review.
- High-order conceptual and analytical skills.
- Substantial project and program management skills, including the ability to implement processes to facilitate monitoring, reporting and successful delivery and objectives in a timely manner.
- Highly-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including experience in undertaking consultation, stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation.
- Ability to provide strategic leadership.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance before commencing employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Department policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
