Kiara College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Head of Learning Area (HOLA) – English to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will have a sound understanding of the curriculum of both lower and senior school and will possess excellent organisational skills required to plan and prioritise within the English Learning Area. In addition to this, the HOLA - English will coordinate the school’s Reading Mastery program in 2020 and manage and develop the performance of the school’s Learning Support program.
The College is looking for a dynamic and outcomes focused individual who will lead and support the English learning in the role of Head of Learning Area – English (HOLA). The successful candidate will be skilled in curriculum leadership and have excellent interpersonal skills that support the development of effective working relationships. In this role, you will be expected to model commitment to whole school strategies and a team approach. Effective leadership is required in providing teachers with a model of collaborative problem-solving and explicit teaching practices.
The successful applicant will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills which will enable them to build positive relationships with all members of the school community; and should be committed to working effectively within a professional learning community. Knowledge of the Australian Professional Standards for Teaching, an ability to reflect on teacher practice and undergo performance management of staff is an important part of this role. Classroom observations, facilitating the development of staff and providing staff that require additional support to meet expected standards are required skills of the HOLA - English. An ability to manage physical and financial resources should also be demonstrated.
It is desirable that the Kiara College HOLA- English can demonstrate the skills and abilities to lead cross-curricula learning experiences that would maximise student outcomes in collaboration with the school’s operational farm program.
Kiara College is located on the western edge of the Swan Valley which provides a diverse area of rural and tourist enterprises. The school has the unique resource of a school farm which enhances the school’s Specialist Agriculture Program.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
