Appointment Pool
Gooseberry Hill Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of School Officers for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2019 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2019 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2020.
As School Officer you are the first point of contact in our busy front office and you will be able to demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills and be able to liaise with parents, students and staff.
To be suitable you should possess strong organisational skills in delivering and prioritising tasks when under pressure, have well developed interpersonal skills and be able to use your initiative. The demanding role of School Officer also involves undertaking student-related activities, including providing information, advice and collecting documentation for enrolment of new students.
As the School Officer, you will administer the operation of school databases, records and management information systems. The successful applicants should have a high level of competency when using computers and a range of application packages, with a knowledge of Word, Excel, Integris, Assets, Billing and HRMIS (or similar platforms). You will be required to produce a range of documents as well as creating and preparing school materials for publication. You will be responsible for supporting the Manager Corporate Services in administering the financial resources of the school including receipting of monies, invoice processing, banking, assisting with end of month procedures and ensuring data integrity.
The suitable applicants will also be required to assist with the induction and support of administrative school support staff, development of induction programs and materials for school support staff and the coordination of relief staff. As School Officer you will assist with the management of school assets, including assistance with the administration of out-of-hours use of school facilities, coordinating and negotiating maintenance and repairs and maintaining key registers and security system codes.
Gooseberry Hill PS is located approximately 20 kilometres from the Perth CBD on the boundary of bush reserves and the nearby Kalamunda National Park. The school was established in 1972 and over the years has created an enviable record of being a nurturing school, committed to excellence and supported by a caring community. The school became an Independent Public School in 2012, which has given the school community some measure of autonomy to steer its path in the WA Government School System.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Experience in providing effective administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.
- Experience in financial processes and procedures, including the handling of debtors, creditors, reconciliations, and/or preparing financial returns.
- Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- Good verbal and written communication skills and experience in the application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.

Eligibility and Training Requirements
Employees will be required to:
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
