Eaton Community College (ECC) is seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and progressive Literacy Specialist Teacher to join their team and work alongside a Literacy Coordinator.
The successful applicant will have proven experience; possessing a repertoire of strategies that apply skills, knowledge and understanding to improve literacy outcomes for all students. The expectation is that you will apply your excellent interpersonal skills and strong curriculum knowledge around whole school literacy development. Innovation and enthusiasm as a progressive Specialist Literacy Teacher will work towards establishing ways to improve outcomes for our students.
The successful applicant will be able to work collaboratively with the Literacy Coordinator, Education Assistants and teachers across the school helping to build the capacity of our educators, which is a high priority. This is achieved by being proactive in modelling strategies, evaluating data and supporting teachers and students in order to meet the educational and literacy needs of our students.
The successful applicant should be highly organised with a strong understanding of teaching pedagogies to meet the literacy needs of individual student needs from Year 7 to Year 12. This would also include knowledge and practice of diagnostic assessments and development of appropriate personalised learning plans for students.
To be successful, you will be a student and relationship focused teacher who is highly motivated, innovative and able to work effectively in a team environment, as well as demonstrating an engaging and energetic teaching style. You will be able to reflect and assess the effectiveness of teaching practices using a variety of methods suited to the learning environment and the College. The expectations are about promoting an environment of active and positive learning, and providing educational opportunities and activities which enable students to achieve success. An ability and the qualifications to teach across other learning areas would be advantageous.
The College is a medium-sized school catering for approximately 580 students from Year 7 to Year 12 and is an Independent Public School. We offer a wide range of courses from VET, General and ATAR subjects. We are a Positive Behaviour Support school prioritising whole school collaboration, engaging staff, students and parents in the development and evolution of shared expectations. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate instructional classroom management strategies for effective classroom behaviours, which facilitate learning. This focus on social and emotional development is crucial to the success of the delivery of the curriculum. The teaching expectation is every teacher is delivering explicit teaching strategies and utilising formative assessment and data analysis to provide quality and effective teaching practices that target students’ needs. This year we have embraced Professional Learning Communities focusing on two major areas: Quality Teaching and Social & Emotional Learning. These communities are a significant part of our whole school development and on-going improvements, engaging all staff in the process. We are highly supported by an internal Specialist Literacy Teacher and support personnel, with a current focus on reading, and a proactive PBS team.
In addition, we have an Education Department endorsed Specialist Learning Program for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The program is embedded within the learning environment and we demonstrate inclusive practices. Our educators access our highly skilled specialist personnel, who work with our mainstream educators towards differentiating and prioritising the strengths of individual students and their needs.

The College site is adjacent to the Glen Huon Primary School and close to community facilities such as the Eaton Fair Shopping Centre, Dardanup Shire Offices and a community oval, placing it in the heart of the Eaton community. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
