The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic teacher to take on the dual role of Workplace Learning Coordinator and Design and Technology teacher. This role will involve a significant amount of travel around Western Australia. A considerable degree of flexibility and the ability to effectively plan and prioritise to balance the requirements of the role will be essential.
Our Workplace Learning Coordinators are responsible for SIDE’s Workplace Learning program and support our students, mostly in regional and remote areas of Western Australia, completing a range of work placements and school-based traineeships (SBT). The successful applicant will have the demonstrated experience, knowledge, skills and understandings of Workplace Learning and SBT requirements and an ability to conduct site checks as well as negotiate with a broad spectrum of employers who provide structured workplace learning opportunities for our students. A current Certificate IV in Training and Assessment is a requirement and the experience, qualifications and currency to work with the Vocational Education team to deliver one of the Vocational Education certificates offered by SIDE is highly desirable.
SIDE delivers Design and Technology courses to remote and regional schools using digital web-conferencing technology. Our subjects include Wood Design, Electronics, Technical Graphics, Automotive Engineering and Photography. Students may also participate in practical Design and Technology classes in the workshop at their school with the support of locally-based staff and interact with the SIDE teacher via a video link. Therefore, demonstrated experience successfully delivering Design and Technology courses in the woodwork context and a high level of Information and Computer Technology (ICT) literacy are both essential for this role.
As a teacher with SIDE you will exhibit innovation and creativity in classroom practices and cater for student diversity. It is highly desirable that the successful applicant is able to understand instructional and curriculum design, exhibit self-reflective practices with a focus on quality teaching and is able to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment.
We are seeking applicants with knowledge and skills to utilise systemic data such as Student Achievement Information System (SAIS), National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) to address individual student learning needs. The successful applicant will also have the ability to teach students from culturally diverse backgrounds including those who have English as an additional language/dialect.
In this role you will embrace the idea of delivering the curriculum through information communication technology (ICT). Teachers at SIDE make use of different technologies to achieve student outcomes. Our teachers are expected to engage students in an online format and use synchronous (WebEx) and asynchronous (Moodle) technologies as the basis of active student instruction.
SIDE, a state of the art online teaching and learning facility, is the centre for distance learning within the Department. Founded in 1918, SIDE has a rich history of student success and achievement for those studying through a distance education mode. SIDE has a large and diverse student population and provides education for a range of client groups across the State. Enrolments are typically students who are permanent residents in Western Australia.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
