This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2020 with possible extension (12 months).
Butler College is seeking a School Psychologist who is experienced in the secondary school and educational support context, having psychological practice that will enable them to transition quickly into the Student Services team, and function at a high level of effectiveness. The successful applicant will have strong interpersonal and communication skills to work with College Leaders, Teaching staff, Support staff and students across the school.
The School Psychologist is responsible for delivering direct psychological services to identified clients, applying psychological skills and knowledge to improve mental health, learning and behavioural outcomes for students in collaboration with school personnel, parents, caregivers and other agencies. They will assist with the development and implementation of school-based support services and programs; the School Psychologist is an integral component of the highly collaborative Butler College Student Services team.
As the successful applicant, you will have a highly developed capacity to provide specialist support to school staff in the areas of student behaviour, learning, and mental health and wellbeing, and the ability to collaborate with the school administration to develop evidence-based whole school improvement initiatives in these areas. You will demonstrate highly effective skills in situational analysis, problem conceptualisation and the identification of strengths and needs to inform decision making at the individual, group, and systemic levels in order to support a tiered model of service delivery. You will also demonstrate a thorough understanding of psychological, social and organisational learning theories and assessment processes to support staff in developing, implementing and monitoring interventions to achieve appropriate outcomes for a diverse range of students. You will have a strong commitment to your own professional growth and development, and demonstrate contemporary knowledge of exemplary interventions and support for teens.
The successful applicant will have a high level of written and oral communication skills and work to build capacity and understanding of staff of best practice intervention, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills. They will also have strong interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients, Department personnel and inter-agency partners across a variety of contexts. An ability to train staff in the delivery of social emotional learning programs such as Youth Mental Health First Aid and mindfulness training is highly desirable.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Ability to implement school psychology services and programs in an educational environment to maximise student learning outcomes;
- Knowledge of the implementation and evaluation of a variety of psychological approaches appropriate for individual, group and system-level intervention;
- High level written and oral communication skills, demonstrating the capacity to produce correspondence, reports and case notes, and interview and training (facilitation) skills;
- Interpersonal skills, which demonstrate an ability to function in a self-directed way, and as a member of an interdisciplinary team, working with a range of clients across the lifespan, Departmental personnel and interagency partners across a variety of contexts;
- Ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles provisional or general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA); and
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching (minimum one year); or
- hold a Graduate Diploma in School Psychology (or equivalent), or
- have undertaken a minimum placement of 40 days in the school education sector as part of higher degree studies in psychology;
or
- hold an appropriate degree or equivalent qualification which entitles general registration with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) and have worked a minimum of three years full-time (or equivalent part-time) as a school psychologist (or equivalent position).

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
