Nollamara Primary School (PS) is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Library Officer to join our friendly team. The successful applicant will need to have highly developed interpersonal skills, a love of books and reading, enjoy working with students, staff and the wider community as well as be willing to be flexible and adaptable in this busy school.
The school is located approximately 7 kilometres north of the Perth Central Business District and is part of the North Metropolitan Education Region. The school was built in 1956 and has always had beautiful grounds. Nollamara PS is a Level 4 school with a student enrolment of around 260 students and caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 6.
Nollamara Primary has almost 300 students, including many from diverse language and cultural backgrounds including Aboriginal, migrant and humanitarian entrants. Some students attend the Intensive English Centre for one to two years, which is on site, to develop their language and literacy skills. The school is part of the Fogarty program, which aims to improve student progress and achievement, as well as teacher pedagogy. Nollamara Primary promotes positive and collaborative parent engagement and having volunteers in the library is an area needing to be developed. A highly effective School Board and P&C work in partnership with the school, too.
The role of the Library Officer operates routine library procedures using Bookmark and provides the clerical support needed to maintain the efficient functioning of the Library Resource Centre. The successful applicant will provide general clerical support and maintain the resources and environment of the school’s library, to support the learning outcomes of students. Other responsibilities include purchasing teacher and student resources, coordinating displays, boards around the school, facilitating book fairs and special events using the library resources.
The successful applicant will also operate library systems which ensure library records are up to date and library resources are maintained. You will also need to manage the library budget including purchasing and running audits according to the school’s needs. Some general ICT skills would be beneficial to support laptop and iPad use in the library.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- Ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spread sheets and word processing.
- Experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
