Comet Bay College is seeking to appoint a Deputy Principal who is a highly effective instructional leader with outstanding interpersonal skills who is ready to build upon their proven skills and abilities and take them to the next level.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, hardworking and committed professional who can work closely as a member of the Executive Team and understand what it takes to see vision, planning and programs implemented with highly successful outcomes. As a key member of the broader College Leadership Team you will work collaboratively with the group to deliver the strategic intent of the College, in alignment with the College Business Plan.
Key aspects of the role will see you using your outstanding leadership skills to support and ensure that the Dean of Teaching and Learning, Dean of Learning Support, the Dean of Gifted and Talented (GAT) and the Dean of Arts are delivering outstanding outcomes within their own portfolios and are developing their own leadership skills. The successful applicant will use their high level knowledge and experience as an instructional leader to ensure that the College’s teaching and learning strategy will continue to develop the instructional capacity of its teaching staff. You will have demonstrated experience to overseer the effective alignment of a sophisticated performance and development process with a high level classroom observation and feedback program that supports teaching staff to reflect on their own teaching practice with a view to continued growth.
Your proven ability and expertise to align, source, plan and deliver a high quality targeted and explicit staff professional learning program will further enhance staff professional growth within the College. As a curriculum leader you will support Learning Area Deans to conduct curriculum reviews, developing strategic evidenced based responses that enable the delivery of engaging twenty first century teaching and learning programs to best meet the needs of our students. Comet Bay College works closely with its partner primary schools as part of the Comet Bay Professional Learning Community (CBPLC). Your highly effective interpersonal skills and ability to build effective educational networks will enable the continued growth and success of the CBPLC.
Comet Bay College, an innovative Independent Public School, is a modern, educational facility that caters for approximately 1800 students from Year 7 to Year 12 and is located one kilometre from the coast in the vibrant community of Secret Harbour. The College boasts state of the art facilities that include STEM maker spaces, specialist science laboratories, a lecture theatre, fitness centre, metal fabrication centre, a modern industrial food studio and a graphics/mechatronics studio.
Comet Bay College is a Gifted and Talented (GAT) school and also has extension pathways in English, Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences Years 7-10. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- The capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
- A high level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- The capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
