South Bunbury Primary School (PS) is seeking an innovative and self-driven Deputy Principal with strong interpersonal and team management skills to join their executive. The South Bunbury PS is an Independent Public School and has been a feature of the Education of Bunbury students since September, 1913. The school is situated only 2km from the General Post Office in a well-established, residential area of the city. The close ties with the South Bunbury ESC contributes to a strong ethos of community and caring for others. The successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to teacher development and student engagement to support the School’s Business Plan.
We are seeking a highly motivated and positive Deputy Principal to join our school and enhance the well-established, collaborative and solutions focused school culture. In collaboration with both the School Leadership team and Curriculum team leaders the successful applicant will demonstrate instructional leadership, especially in the areas of ICT and Students at Educational Risk. Using highly developed interpersonal and communication skills you will be able to develop and maintain productive relationships across all stakeholders invested in students.
Staff at South Bunbury PS operate strong collegiate curriculum teams in which collaboration and support is fundamental. The School has a focus on staff leadership with an emphasis on positive support to embed skills and promote staff development. As Deputy Principal you will lead staff to improve curriculum knowledge, lesson delivery and student performance. You will have demonstrated the capacity to improve teaching practise through the provision of targeted feedback and develop and lead staff in professional learning in key priority areas. The successful applicant will have a proven ability in supporting the Professional Development of staff and developing Professional Development Plans utilising the AITSL standards.
This role requires skills in school and event organisation, staff and stakeholder management, operationalising financial priorities, School Board participation, timetabling and asset management. But above all else, you will have an embedded Student Behaviour Management approach that fosters positive and productive relationships. That includes restorative, fair and consistent interactions with students.
The school has strong links with the community and our collaborative, cross campus environment with the ESC has a strongly embedded school culture focused on support, integration and improving outcomes for students. The successful applicant will be able to value-add to this respectful relationship between the 2 schools on-site and have the ability to work cooperatively with the leadership teams to enhance the success of the School’s Business Plan.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
