This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly effective and motivated person to join our foundation team at Alkimos College. This position provides a unique opportunity and will assist establishing the new college library with up-to-date resources and information and provide assistance and support to students and staff that will contribute to improved student learning.
The role of the Library Officer will require you to:
- supervise the day-to-day operations of the library and provision of reference, information and associated services to teaching staff and students;
- administer library systems which ensure library records are up-to-date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are accessible and available to students and staff;
- conduct library skills training and demonstrate the use of library equipment;
- prepare procedure manuals for library equipment, as required;
- assist students and staff to select program and age appropriate materials;
- prepare and monitor the library budget and make recommendations for new library resources;
- coordinate the rosters for library visits;
- provide technical advice on the library Information Technology system;
- supervise the duties of subordinate library staff and/or volunteers;
- supervise groups of students outside lesson times (Including before and after school) or in class learning activities relating to the library.

The successful applicant will be required to ensure information in the library catalogue system, Library Resources Register and other library systems is accurate and up-to-date; all non-Schools Catalogue Information System (SCIS)/Curriculum Materials Information System (CMIS) resources are accurately catalogued or archived, including the addition and refining of descriptor notes.
The successful applicant will be the ‘face’ of the Alkimos College Library – meeting and greeting students and staff, and providing exemplary customer service. Experience in library systems is essential.
About Us
Alkimos College will open for the start of the 2020 school year as a local intake secondary school. Initially the school will accommodate up to 250 Year 7 students in 2020 and grow to accommodate a total of 2000+ Year 7 to 12 students by 2025.

Alkimos College is one of only sixteen schools chosen to have a Specialised Autism Learning Program, with the program already in place at Alkimos Primary School, providing students with a seamless K-12 program, if required. There will also be an academic extension pathway and a whole school approach to Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths (STEM) to provide ‘hands-on’ and ‘minds-on’ lessons for students.
A partnership founded on strong relationships between students, staff, parents and the community will be the enduring platform upon which the school is built.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- good verbal and written communication skills, including application of customer service principles and practices.
- good interpersonal skills and ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
- ability to use computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
- experience in providing administrative support with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks effectively.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
