Kensington Primary School (PS) is looking for collaborative, life-long learners to join the teaching team as a teacher of Japanese. The school is focusing on explicit, differentiated and targeted instruction and social emotional learning through a whole school approach.
Our students come from a diverse range of social and cultural backgrounds. The school encourages close ties with the community and collaborative learning with colleagues. Experienced and capable staff caters for the developmental needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 6. We offer specialist programs in Music, Japanese, Visual Arts, Science and Physical Education, along with a support program in literacy and an extension program in numeracy. Students have the opportunity to participate in our award winning choir and may participate in recorder as well as selective specialist instrumental tuition in flute, clarinet, trumpet, baritone and percussion. Instrumental students have the opportunity to be part of the school band. The school boasts computer facilities which include classroom computers, a bank of computers in the library, notebooks and iPads, along with E-boards or interactive TVs in each class.
The buildings and play areas are surrounded by beautiful gardens, extensive lawns and lush native flora. The school has a community developed Nature Play area to extend the critical and creative thinking and recreational opportunities for students. Our focus in the Year 4-6 age group is developing active citizens and leaders. All Year 6 students are trained for a specific leadership role in the school, and all Year 4-6 classes introduced to philosophy lessons.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate your competency against the following domains (that govern the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers):
- Professional knowledge;
- Professional practice; and
- Professional engagement.

ELIGIBILITY
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check; and

TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement; and
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
