The School Curriculum and Standards Division is seeking a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join their team in the position of Principal Consultant Measurement, Population Testing (NAPLAN) in the K-10 Testing branch.
The Principal Consultant will manage contracts associated with NAPLAN to ensure that all publications, websites, test materials and reporting materials are developed and delivered in a timely fashion and provide expert assessment, measurement and curriculum advice to a range of audiences and for a range of purposes, including briefings on assessment program results.
The successful applicant will oversee the logistics related to the NAPLAN Writing marking operation, liaise with schools on all aspects of the implementation of NAPLAN and NAP sample testing and will have the ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload as well as to communicate confidently at all levels of the organisation.
The K-10 Testing branch operates in a busy, stimulating and challenging area. The work environment is a collaborative one. The School Curriculum and Standards Division provide quality curriculum, assessment and standards to enable all Western Australian students to become confident, creative learners and active, informed citizens who contribute positively to society.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our branch for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Highly developed project management skills, including demonstrated experience in planning, monitoring, reviewing, evaluating and reporting on complex educational measurement projects.
- Highly developed interpersonal and negotiation skills with a demonstrated ability to work with professional organisations and peak bodies in a consultative and collaborative manner to secure program outcomes.
- Outstanding written and oral communication and presentation skills.
- Comprehensive conceptual and analytical skills in the area of student assessment, including the ability to analyse student achievement data using Rasch methodology.
- A high level of understanding of contemporary issues in the assessment, measurement and reporting of student performance, particularly in relation to literacy and numeracy curriculum areas.

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
