Oberthur Primary School (PS) is keen to appoint a committed and passionate Program Coordinator who ideally has demonstrated exemplary knowledge and experience to contribute to the further refinement of the school’s culture of high performance and high care.
The Program Coordinator (Chinese Language Immersion) collaborates with the Principal and other members of the Executive Team to provide educational leadership specifically for the Chinese Language Team, but also across the school community, to promote the school vision and assist in the facilitation of workforce effectiveness.
The successful applicant will be a dynamic and highly visible leader with strong interpersonal skills who demonstrates the knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience to mentor, develop and lead the Chinese Language staff; support students; interact with the community; and contribute to the continuing and outstanding positive school ethos and atmosphere.
As well as an academic focus, Oberthur has an historically strong Languages program with a Chinese Immersion (bi-lingual) Program commencing in Pre-primary and currently fully implemented up to Year Six. In addition to Chinese Literacy, aspects of Maths, Science and Visual Arts are delivered in Mandarin. The successful applicant will lead the Languages Team in providing support for other public schools as part of the Lead Language School Program.
A key aspect of the role is to provide high level curriculum and instructional leadership, in addition to leading professional learning to further enhance the development and implementation of the WA Curriculum – Languages (Chinese) across the school in relevant areas. Demonstrated experience in analysing data, developing plans and leading aspects of school review will also be expected.
Experience in mentoring, coaching, classroom observation and providing feedback to teachers to ensure whole school connected practice, is highly advantageous. This will be invaluable when supporting, coaching and mentoring the Oberthur Chinese Language Immersion Team across the school.
The school’s belief system is closely linked to the SCSA Principles of Teaching, Learning and Assessment. Pedagogy is strongly influenced by John Hattie’s ‘Visible Learning’, thinking skills (Bloom’s Taxonomy) and First Steps. Whole school practice includes effective lesson design (iSTAR), Literacy and Numeracy Blocks, and the gradual release of responsibility model. A commitment to collaborative planning, assessment and moderation of student learning across curriculum areas is a feature of our school structure. Demonstrated expertise and experience in these areas is an advantage.
Oberthur is strong in Digital Technology and has an established one-to-one MacBook and iPad program. All teaching staff are issued an iPad which assists in the facilitation of collaborative meetings, as well as supporting planning and implementation of the learning programs, assessment and communication. Experience in this area may be an advantage.
Oberthur PS, an Independent Public School, is located in a quiet area of Bull Creek and has a traditionally strong community involvement. The school population of 650 students from Kindergarten to Year Six has a mix of cultural backgrounds and EAL/D is a feature, particularly in the early years. The school is set in attractive surroundings with many trees, shade and well maintained gardens.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:
- Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
- High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
- Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
- Capacity to manage physical and financial resources.

ELIGIBILITY AND TRAINING
Employees will be required to:
- Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy
- Hold a recognised qualification in teaching and be currently registered or eligible for registration to teach in Western Australia;
- Obtain a current Department of Education Criminal Record Clearance prior to commencement of employment; and
- Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
- Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy; and
- Complete the Department’s training in Accountability and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
