Thornlie Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Teacher – Kindergarten to Year 6 (K-6) for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2019 school year and up to the end of Term 4, 2020. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2019 school year, up to the end of Term 4, 2020.
Thornlie PS is seeking high quality educators who will deliver learning programs that address individual student learning needs, capture the interest of students and cultivate their desire to learn. Successful applicants will demonstrate their understanding of and ability to, implement visible learning practises, differentiated learning programs and appropriate pedagogy and assessment practises for students from a range of learning backgrounds. Applicants are welcome to apply for Mainstream, Intensive English (IEC) teaching positions or both.
Thornlie PS has a mainstream school cohort of students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Within the mainstream school cohort there are a high number of Stage 2 English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) students, regular mainstream students and Aboriginal students. These students require engaging learning programs, appropriate pedagogy and assessment practises specific to their learning needs.
Thornlie PS also has an Intensive English Centre that enrols Stage 1 EAL/D students. These students may be newly arrived to Australia and are new to English or may have entered Year 1 speaking a language other than English at home. The IEC program focuses on developing students' English language communication and skills and this is achieved through the use of appropriate EAL/D curriculum, pedagogy and assessment practices specific to primary aged EAL/D Stage 1 learners.
Thornlie PS has a strong emphasis on school and community partnerships and values the diversity within our school. The school provides a range of programs, events and celebrations throughout the year that encourages all members of our school community to engage with the school and with student learning.
